I'm on an "update once a month" schedule, apparently... so here's my post for July.
Between music practice (my chamber ensemble is performing at a breast cancer benefit; apparently the president of UF and his family are going to be there, ack!!), having my family visit, and preparing for attending a conference in Colorado from the 12th-17th, I'm exhausted.

Why do I spread myself so thin?
Also, I really need violin lessons. I'm tired of only knowing how to play in first position. I also wish that my relative pitch wasn't total crap. |

This morning, some noise in my living room (which is where my computer desk is) woke me up, and it took me some groggy time to figure out what it was. It was the noise of someone typing on my computer. At first, I thought someone else was in my apartment, since I was only hearing single clicks at a time. However, I started hearing multiple clicks, and realized it was probably a cat walking across my keyboard. When I went to my living room to check, any culprits had already hidden themselves.
It reminds me of this:

But the first few clicks I heard definitely make me picture one of my cats sitting on my computer chair bashing the keyboard with his/her paws and thinking, "Mommy does this all the time, I wanna try!"
I figure Khepri is the most likely culprit. |

| Yay Chinese food |

On Sunday, the bf and I + the crew went to downtown Orlando to see the Jim Henson exhibit somewhere in some museum near some public library. Okay, so I don't remember the exact location, but I do remember the exhibit itself. Kira's dress and some other props from The Dark Crystal were on display, but her dress was my favorite. It was was beautiful!!
The Chinese restaurant I mentioned in my previous post was only a short drive away from the museum so I finally got to eat there. We ordered an array of dim sum plus a bunch of dishes. With tax, it ended up costing about $19/person (for seven people), but totally worth it (IMO).
Yay leftovers (no one else wanted to keep any, so I got them).
Authentic Chinese food plus dim sum make Mimichan happy. :D
I still miss Chiang's Gourmet, though-- my favorite Sichuanese restaurant in Seattle. Plus, the owner is Buddhist vegetarian (note: I'm not), and he makes the most exotic and amazing vegetarian dishes. |

Saw my 2nd rock concert ever last weekend, it was one of my favorite bands-- Flogging Molly. I love their mix of traditional Irish instruments with punk rock rhythms. Their violinist was awesome! I can't believe 7 instruments on stage all playing at once could sound soooo good and not chaotic at all.
BEST PART: All of it!! Especially since they played my favorite song ("Devil's Dance Floor").
WORST PART: I turned down the chance to eat at an authentic Chinese restaurant in Orlando. I know, it was a stupid decision and I definitely shouldn't have, especially since I don't know when I'll get to eat REAL Chinese food anymore (other than what I make myself). Unfortunately, I got the impression that the rest of my group wasn't interested, so I agreed to eat Burger King at some rest stop on the turnpike instead. Well, I spent most of the time in between the opening band finishing up and Flogging Molly's performance throwing up in the House of Blues women's restroom. I *did* make it back in time to see their entrance, at least.
Clearly, my system can't take fast food anymore.
Why on earth did I turn down the chance to eat real Chinese food?
I must be nuts.
FLOGGING MOLLY IS AWESOME.
P.S. WTF, my coworker 卓 (a.k.a. "ZZ") plays the accordion! So random... but hey, between the two of us, we could form 2/7ths of Flogging Molly. |

So the 23rd annual Hoggetowne Midieval Faire is coming up, and of course I want to dress up for it again like I did last year. I want to make my own costume this year, though.
I have an idea, and I'll keep you posted. It may be too difficult for me, but hey at least I'll try it...
If not, then I'll just wear my Nezha costume (minus the hula hoop, since I don't want people to think I'm dressed as some sort of acrobat and not a Chinese deity!) or something, lol.
If only I could run around in roller blades with flames painted on the sides and wielding a spear... that would be awesome! |
